This look is all about muted tones, cobalt grey and plush black velvet with classic pearl and white gold jewelry. The necklace is very special to me as it was my sister’s wedding jewelry and it brings back memories of her white winter wedding when it snowed on the grounds of University College Cork where she married her sweetheart, Gabriel Raphael in the Honan chapel in Cork. The necklace is such a statement piece and catches the light in the most sumptuous of ways, adding extra dimensions of glamour to an otherwise minimal look. My headband harps back to the days of Peggy Guggenheim and silent film stars like Gloria Swanson who swathed their hair in exotic shimmering turbans, exuding night-time elegance. My favourite ever turban-inspired look in undoubtedly the one worn by Lana Turner in the 1940s film noir The Postman Always Rings Twice. Sensual and smouldering, Lana Turner was the epitome of the femme fatale and a style icon I look to often for reference points.
My dress is from Primark/Penneys and is actually a wool blend, the blazer is H&M, the boots are Office. My headband is from Topshop and the jewelry is from the amazing antique store, Rhinestones on Andrew Street. My lipstick is MAC Rebel with Vino lipliner.
